Meet the Pastor

Bishop Frederick L. Flowers Sr.

Leading Promise Tabernacle since December 1984

Bishop Frederick L. Flowers Sr. serves as Senior Pastor of Promise Tabernacle Church in Flint, Michigan. He distinguished himself through 13 years of exemplary ministry at North Star Baptist Church, where he served 10 years as associate pastor before answering the call to pastoral leadership. In December 1984, he assumed the pastorate of Golden Leaf Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 38, bringing a vision of transformative growth and spiritual renewal to the congregation.

Bishop Flowers has demonstrated exceptional leadership, achieving remarkable congregational growth from 150 to over 400 members within his first years of tenure. In 1987, he spearheaded the strategic relocation to a purpose-built facility at 815 West Carpenter Road, successfully navigating property acquisition, construction oversight, and congregational transition. His powerful exposition of Scripture has been instrumental in leading countless individuals to salvation and spiritual maturity.

Recognizing the integral connection between spiritual ministry and community service, Bishop Flowers founded Golden Leaf Neighborhood Services in the early 1980s. He forged strategic partnerships with the Salvation Army and local agencies, creating a coordinated network providing food assistance, clothing, and essential resources to families in need throughout the Flint community.

Throughout more than four decades of ministry, Bishop Flowers has built a distinguished legacy of biblical scholarship and discipleship. He instituted three weekly Bible study sessions, strengthened the Sunday School program, and developed comprehensive seminars focused on theological education. His sustained commitment to expository preaching has produced a congregation characterized by biblical literacy, doctrinal soundness, and missional engagement.
